About PastelFold

A calm, clutter-free wallpaper app for iOS and Android.

The idea

Most wallpaper apps have the same problem: hundreds of low-effort images dumped into a grid, wrapped in ad interstitials and a subscription paywall, with a "sign up to continue" screen before you've even seen what's on offer. PastelFold started from a simpler question — what if a wallpaper app just felt calm? One idea, followed all the way through: soft pastel colors, thoughtfully composed, with nothing standing between opening the app and setting a wallpaper you actually like.

That's why the whole app is built around curated collections instead of an endless search bar — each one designed around its own deliberate palette, rather than an algorithm guessing what you might want. It's a smaller library than a stock-photo wallpaper app, on purpose: every wallpaper in it was actually chosen, not just included.

Choices we made, and why

No accounts, no login. There's nothing about your wallpaper preferences that needs to live on a server somewhere. Favorites, theme, and settings stay on your device. If you buy the unlock, it's tied to your Apple ID or Google account — the account you already have — instead of asking you to create a new one just for this app.

A one-time purchase, not a subscription. A wallpaper isn't a service you consume every month — it's an image you set once and keep. Charging a recurring fee for that never sat right, so PastelFold doesn't: pay once, keep everything, including whatever gets added to your unlocked collections later.

No ads. An ad breaking up a calm, pastel-colored screen defeats the point of the app. Revenue comes only from people who choose to unlock the full library — nothing is a for-attention product in disguise.

iOS and Android behave differently on purpose, not by accident. On Android, tapping Apply sets your wallpaper immediately. On iPhone, Apple gives no app a way to do that — so Apply saves the image to Photos and walks you through setting it manually. That's a genuine platform limitation, not a shortcut we took, and we'd rather be upfront about it than pretend the two experiences are identical.

Who's behind it

PastelFold is built and maintained by MinAsh, an independent developer. It shares a home with MemoBloom, an app that turns your photos into beautiful memories — both built with the same philosophy: do one thing well, respect the user's time and privacy, and skip the ads and accounts that most apps default to.
